Caution: June’s Windows upgrade may break your Wi-Fi hotspot

Windows is a complex monster, constructed on actually years of code and enhancements. It’s barely unexpected when updates have some unexpected effects. Such seems the case with the 21 H2 upgrade to Windows 11, along with other Windows updates sent in June. According to bug tracking paperwork from Microsoft, lots of users are seeing their Wi-Fi hotspots detaching after the upgrade.

To be clear, this isn’t impacting basic Wi-Fi connections, from a Windows computer system to a router or other network devices. This is the hotspot function which permits you to take the connection currently going to your computer system (state, an Ethernet connection or a cellular radio constructed into a laptop computer) and rebroadcast it over the computer system’s Wi-Fi radio, turning that PC into a reliable Wi-Fi router. The function is more frequently seen on mobile phones, however it’s simply as useful for a laptop computer or desktop if your other Wi-Fi choices are restricted.

Microsoft recorded the problem the other day, June 16 th, identified by BleepingComputer It’s significant as “examining.” It does not look like there are any options at the minute; under “workaround” Microsoft just states to disable the Wi-Fi hotspot.
